So much to do now the sun is shining, the birds are singing and the buds are beginning to burst! But today instead of spring cleaning the garden we decided on a day out. We drove to Builth Wells about 35 minutes away and walked around the lovely shops and enjoyed a coffee in a cafe overlooking the river Wye then we headed off to the Erwood Craft Centre – another 20 minutes.
After looking around the engine, the station, the crafts and Wendy Powell-Jones’ wonderful art exhibition we sat outside in the sunshine having another coffee and delicious cake.
Fully invigorated we set off on a walk along the banks of the river Wye passing fields full of prancing new-born lambs, banks of primroses and trees filled with the sound of nesting birds.
When we arrived home I took some photos of the garden and the birds. The Canada Goose is settling in well on her nest on the island and the goldfinches have arrived back today. Not sure where they have all been but when the weather turned freezing cold in November they disappeared from our garden overnight so today they have returned and the niger feeder has been filled and they are tucking in as though they have never been away! Next we are awaiting the return of the swallows. They are already a week later than last year so fingers crossed they will come back this week.
Next post will be when the swallows return!
