By George…it’s St George’s Day and Shakespeare’s birthday methinks! More importantly our little lonesome moorhen has a suitor- one flew into the pond last week and the two of them seem very friendly. Can’t see any difference between them at all to differentiate between boy/girl…but there must be some! They are swimminmg round together in the pond keeping away from the rather aggressive Canada Goose, who is protecting his missus, who is sitting proudly on her nest. The Mallard too has found a mate but they keep flying in and out and haven’t made a nest together – as yet!
At last the weather has warmed up a bit and the Spring flowers are starting to spring. The front border outside the cottage is looking particularly pretty.
One of the jobs I hate doing in the Spring is painting the garden furniture. Last year we bought two metal garden benches and they have survived the winter without rusting so I only have a few chairs and tables this year to paint. Instead of the usual brown paint I’ve gone for black ( following my neighbour’s example) it certainly covers well and looks smarter.
Just off to play bowls. Last indoor session of the season. I’m no better than when I started but it’s a great activity and such fun. A great way to meet lovely people too.
