A cloudy, damp and rather dismal day so to keep our spirits up we went to Lampeter to visit the Calico Kate shop. Our friend had told us about all the wonderful materials that were on sale there and as I’ve been toying with the idea of making a quilt….a tiny one…. a visit seemed worthwhile. OH MY GOODNESS…it is a treasure house of everything needed for sewing, quilting, knitting…you name it and I’m sure you’d find it there. I have never seen such an amazing array of fabrics ( even Kaffe Fassett ones) with every kind of design and pattern and as the brochure states:
‘Established in 2002, Calico Kate has gained a reputation as an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ for patchwork, dressmaking, soft furnishing, knitting and many related crafts. In a building full of charm and character, you can wander through eight rooms of fabric, haberdashery and yarn, in a relaxed and homely atmosphere. ‘ email@example.com
There were eight rooms to explore and every room held racks of different fabrics…fantastic!
Did I buy anything??
Well -how could I visit such a delightful shop with such a friendly and happy atmosphere and such helpful folk in charge…of course I did. I am now the proud possessor of a colourful panel, two bundles of material , a pair of sharp scissors, a packet of pins – all to make a tiny quilt and to top it all a brand new sewing machine!
After making such decisions we headed next door, with our friend who had arrived unexpectedly on a visit to the shop at the same time as us, for a well deserved coffee and cake…delicious!
Then a quick visit to the Jen Jones Quilt Centre to say ‘hello’ to friends there. After a quick walk around the town enjoying looking at all the magnificent floral displays that were everywhere ( if the council do the arrangements they should be congratulated on their enterprise as the flowers make the town look so pretty) and then home .
An expensive day out but a very happy one!
