Another Wednesday another visit…this time we headed East to Blaenavon , just over an hour and a bit away, to visit the World Heritage town of Blaenavon, the Ironworks and the Big Pit Colliery.
The Ironwork buildings spoke for themselves one could almost hear the sounds of the furnaces and feel the heat from the molten iron being poured into the moulds.
Big Pit was next stop and the weather was getting chillier and chillier, damper and damper and windier and windier! It was well worth getting cold for as there was a great deal to see , enjoy and learn about the life of the coalmine and colliery.
After having a tasty lunch and coffee in the canteen and then a walk around the excellent museum which is housed in the newly renovated collier’s shower block it was time for home.
We shall definitely recommend a visit here to Big Pit to all our visitors.
