Last Wednesday it was our turn to arrange the Wednesday Wanderer’s Walk. There are only four of us  so we have a lovely time altogether once a month walking and visiting local places of interest.Llanelly House( http://www.llanelly-house.org.uk/   )has  been totally renovated and after seeing a recent TV programme about the house – a visit was planned.

Built in 1714, Llanelly House is the only Grade I listed building in the town of Llanelli, South Wales.

The Llanelly House Project begun with the 2003 BBC ‘Restoration’ series, in which the building was a finalist, championed by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen. Its reopening 10 years later is a triumph of community, archaeology, history, culture, building skills and faith in Llanelli’s heritage. Laurence said:

“I’ve always been a little bit in love with Llanelly House”

We booked in a morning tour and our tour leader was terrific! She was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and she brought the house alive with her stories about past inhabitants. DSC01102

We heard all about Stepney family and their lives and saw the wonderful china they used and we also heard the tales about the maid who died …was she murdered or what? ( Better than Downton Abbey!)

After the tour through the house admiring  all the hard work and effort that has gone into restoring this magnificent building  we settled down  for a delicious coffee in the café . The café and shop are open for all to enjoy…it’s definitely worth  a tour and we look forward to returning when they have completed even more of their proposed expansion…it all sounded very exciting!
