Most years at this time we have an outing to Penpont to buy our Christmas tree but this year we had to give it a miss as Jim is just getting used to his new knee!
At Penpont they have a selection of wonderful trees for sale. Some they have cut down ready and laid on their front lawn to be looked at and bought. However, there is always the choice of being given your very own axe and going into their plantation and chopping your own down or indeed you can be given a spade and go and dig a tree up! This is what we usually do and our garden now has a number of Penpont Christmas trees growing beautifully.

‘This privately owned Grade I listed house has been home to the same family since it was first built in about 1666. In 1992 Gavin and Davina Hogg, with their two sons, moved in and opened up the house and grounds for the first time in its history.
Magnificent in its grounds and on the banks of the River Usk, Penpont lies in the middle of a 2000 acre working rural estate. The house is the centre piece of a remarkable group of buildings spanning various periods, including a church, Dower house, stables, workshops, a dovecote on stilts and a 19 century conservatory.
Around the house lies extensive grounds, sweeping lawns, the old Victorian rose and walled gardens, riverside and woodland walks and more recently constructed the Green Man Maze.’
This year we went to our local garden centre in Llandeilo The Works http://www.worksantiques.co.uk/the-works-garden-centre/ and bought a beautiful tree and then went into the Vintage Café next door for a coffee and mince pie with icecream….delicious!
I carried the tree into the house and started decorating it with my multi coloured flashing beautiful lights.
Rufus was intrigued and watched quietly as the lights all worked …which was amazing!
I went to collect all the decorations and whilst my back was turned Rufus decided to eat two bulbs and fused the lights everywhere!
That’s why the Christmas tree now has low voltage white boring lights on it in case he decides to nibble some more!!
Rufus is now confined to the kitchen where he seems to be quite content!
